What is building equity?
The term building equity represents the goal of creating built environments that are not only free of structural, programmatic, and spatial barriers for all end-users, but that also include solutions to enhance experiences for groups and individuals marginalized by design.
Achieving building equity results in housing, educational spaces, places of employment, cultural institutions, and other environments that all people can access, enjoy, and benefit from.
Building Equity Awards
Projects undergoing the Building Equity Standard may pursue two types of Building Equity Awards, confirming that the priorities of communities and end-users were met during design and post-occupancy. Building Equity Awards communicate to industry leaders, state and local governments, potential building end-users, and other stakeholders that your project is positioned to have a positive social impact.
Registration and Award Fees
There is a one-time registration fee for projects interested in the Building Equity Standard, regardless of the number of Building Equity Awards pursued. During registration, projects are assigned a Building Equity Verifier who will provide technical support and guidance during award pursuits. Registration fees include a one-hour kick-off strategy meeting as well as two additional hours of as-needed technical assistance.
